Keeping Pace with Wanda

Don't Overdo It!

When my precious Dad was alive, he had this "philosophy" about taking medications-if one was recommended, then he thought that four or five would be that much more effective! That's how he ended up in the Emergency Department with a gastrointestinal bleed after taking too many aspirin.

I read where a gentleman near Sacramento, set off "bug bombs" in his apartment as he was aggravated about some persistent pests...well, two bombs probably would have done the trick, but he set off eighteen of them!!!  Unfortunately, the foggers found an ignition source that caused a devastating explosion and leveled not only his apartment, but two others (thankfully, no one was injured). When the guy talked to authorities and explained his rationale for such excess, all he wanted to do was to get rid of the bugs! Well, allegedly, after all the kits being launched and the damage, there were reports that roaches could still be seen...yikes!

Well, I suppose it's always a good idea to read the directions! I know that in healthcare, sometimes we experience circumstances that rush us and then folks don't take time to follow the basics...and sometimes that leads to unfavorable outcomes. When things do go wrong, and the team reviews the cause(s), it often comes down to missing a very basic step in the process, it's usually not from anything complicated or mysterious.

I encourage you to take the time, follow the "policy and procedure", and when it says use two, don't use eighteen!
