Keeping Pace with Wanda

A Heartwarming Story...

...ok, get out the tissues, cause this one's gonna make you cry like a baby...

A Cleveland couple were all set to go on a cruise...they had planned it for over a year, were going to enjoy "retirement" by celebrating with an international trip, and then...some very disheartening news. The husband suffered a serious heart attack and the wife was diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer. Whew! How much bad news can people withstand?...and then to think they would have to forego their much anticipated journey!

Well, one of their neighbors had a precious idea to contact all the surrounding homeowners to make sure they could go on that "cruise"-albeit landlocked. Everyone converted their driveways into different ports-Mexico, Italy, Jamaica, and others-with corresponding appetizers and entertainment (local restaurants donated food and a local greeting cards store donated the paper products and decorations). They had games like shuffle board (of course), basketball, face painting, Wii video games, and an outdoor movie. And a cruise would not be a cruise without a captain's table! One of the neighbors even sported a knit skull cap with Bob Marley dreadlocks. All the neighbors were decked out in tropical wear with leis around their necks-and lots of hugs and cheers for the special couple.

As if their "land cruise" wasn't enugh, the neighbors presented them with yet another gift: a ngiht out on the Cleveland's "Nautica Queen" cruise ship, including a limousine ride there and back. One of the songs playing that evening by Foreigner was especially meaningful to the couple: I wanna know what love is, I want you to know me, I wanna feel what love is, I know you can show me. And show them they did!

Folks, whenever you think life is pretty tough, make sure to look around at others in need, take time out to be a good neighbor, and make sure to know what love is.
