What's making news in health care? Here's John G. Taylor's take. With 30 years experience as a journalist at newspapers around the country, John G. Taylor is Community's director of public affairs, responsible for government and community relations.
Here's why I disqualify myself from running for public office:
- I hate phrases like "staying on message."
- I love showing up early to events.
- I really do turn off my cell phone(s) and computer(s) at a set time.
- I really do try to read everything that comes my way.
- I have a 14-year-old dog that can read my mind and physically blocks me when I don't spent more time with her.
- I do believe that bill paying, checking signing and putting the check in the mail so it arrives on time and doesn't bounce -- all rank right up there with honoring one's matrimonial vows.
- I don't believe any reasonably intelligent, not-currently-hallucinating person could proclaim what we have in this country as a health care "system."
- I could never stand before a group of front-line docs, nurses or health-care do-gooders and demand: "Don't tell me not to cut your budgets. I'm going to cut your budgets. All you can do is suggest where I'm gonna cut you."
- I believe regular viewing of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" avoids the need for sedation and preserves sanity.
- I am a die-hard New York Yankee fan and will never truly have a grip on reality until the lean years end.
