This is the madcap time when California legislators jockey to get their bills out of the "suspense" file and moving through the Senate and Assembly. Anything that costs revenue, well, LOL.
"Suspense" is supposed to have an Indiana Jones feel, not paper-pushing politicking. But the LOL used to mean "lots of luck," but has morphed in the text-messaging world to "Laugh Out Loud." Every occupation comes with its own slang.
And my family doctor/fisherman (Dr. Mike aka Billy Bass) hooked me up with a classic medical book from the 1970s that had a ton of slang acronyms -- "The House of God." And you can find plenty online -- UBI (unexplained beer injury); LOBNH (lights on but nobody home); SOB (shortness of breath); NAD (not actually done); and a Hasselhoff (named after the "Baywatch" actor who supposedly sustained a bizarre, accidental injury while shaving).
In the far more tame world of public affairs, we'll be watching as "suspense" moves to "appropriations" and then "floor action." But in the face of a $22 billion or so state deficit, don't expect budget agreement any time soon (or "stat").
